Join us for a special reading with Detroiter Jeanette Pierce as she shares her new children’s book, Hello Detroit. This colorful 22-page hardcover, illustrated by Dave Toennies, takes young readers on a lively tour of Detroit’s neighborhoods, culture, music, art, parks, and people—complete with a hunt for the “City Triplets” hidden throughout its pages. During the event, Pierce will talk about the inspiration behind the book, created with City Institute to help kids connect with the places they live and explore what makes Detroit unique. Families are invited to discover the city’s architecture, museums, public spaces, and creative spirit alongside the author in a fun, interactive introduction to Detroit’s story.
Jeanette Pierce is a social entrepreneur, storyteller, Detroit Historical Society Board Member and lifelong city of Detroit resident. She is also the mother of 6-year-old triplets which inspired her to write a children’s book highlighting some of Detroit’s best assets from a kid’s perspective. All proceeds from book sales at the museum will benefit the Detroit Historical Society.
This book is a natural extension of her day job as President of City Institute which has utilized experiential storytelling to help more than 160,000 residents and stakeholders in Detroit understand and appreciate the city's assets & challenges since 2005.
