Rooted in Pedagogy, Reaching for Growth: A Fresh Start to the School Year
SCECH: 3
This immersive personal and professional development series is co-designed by the Detroit Historical Society and Watch Us Bloom, LLC. The course will offer teachers a series of interconnected learning experiences rooted in a pedagogical framework relevant to Detroit's cultural and historical narrative. Framed within the "Bloomification Growth System" [Watch Us Bloom, LLC], each session will emphasize personal wellness, self-reflection, and "Blooming Strategies" embedded in FUN (Friends Using Neighborhoods) [Detroit Historical Museum],and Experience Based Learnings (EBL) using the Detroit Historical Museum's exhibitions.
Teachers will engage in wellness discussions to explore their inner excellence—fostering stronger, more meaningful learning experiences for students. They’ll participate in exploratory scavenger hunts to uncover primary sources and discover artifacts throughout the museum’s exhibitions. Through reflective activities, educators will revisit and capture their own “Blooming Memories.” Using “Blooming Strategies” aligned with Michigan Department of Education standards, teachers will design purposeful mini-lessons to support student growth. With dedicated time for reflection, restoration, and discovery, this series offers a FUN (Friends Using Neighborhoods) and intentional launch to the 2025–2026 school year.
