Michigan History Day®, is a year-long educational program of the Historical Society of Michigan that encourages students to explore local, state, national and world history. Winners of the state level Michigan History Day competition in the Junior and Senior categories move on to compete in National History Day in College Park, Maryland.
Students and teachers are invited to join us as participants in the Michigan History Day - District 10 Contest event. The annual contest will be hosted at the Detroit Historical Museum on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. NHD’s 2026 theme will be Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History, in part to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Students will prepare projects centered around this year's theme and will have the opportunity to share their work with judges. Winners will be announced at the event and move on to the state competition, hosted in April. Registration opens on January 2, 2026 and closes on February 20, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Registration is free for all participants.
