The Black History Month Historic Houses of Worship Tour takes place at St. Matthew’s–St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, offering an in-depth, one-hour guided experience inside this historic Detroit landmark. Guests will learn about the church’s founding and its central role in Black history, including its association with the Underground Railroad as a place of refuge and resistance. The tour also includes time to explore the building itself, highlighting its architecture, sacred spaces, and long-standing role as a spiritual and community anchor. Half of the proceeds from this tour will support St. Matthew’s–St. Joseph’s fund to repair and preserve its 100-year-old pipe organ, helping ensure this important piece of the church’s musical and cultural legacy continues for future generations.
