Episode 4 - Tales from the D: Don Was
Join us for our final premiere! The night begins with a lively reception featuring special guests Tino G. and Don Was. Then, settle in for an exclusive screening of the fourth episode of Tales from the D with Greg Russell, movie reviewer from Live in the D on Local 4 Detroit. This episode celebrates the remarkable journey of Grammy-winning musician and producer Don Was—from his early days in Detroit to becoming a globally acclaimed producer and president of Blue Note Records. The episode highlights his deep-rooted connection to the city and his influential collaborations with artists across genres, all while honoring the musical spirit of Detroit.
After the screening, Greg will lead the audience in a question-and-answer session with host Tino G. and Don Was.
The evening culminates in a dynamic live performance by Detroit blues legend Billy Davis, whose electrifying guitar style and soulful sound have made him a staple of the city’s music scene. A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Davis brings the authentic energy of Detroit blues to the stage for a powerful closing set.
Don Was founded Was (Not Was) in 1981 and became a highly respected record producer, collaborating with artists like Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, and Iggy Pop. A multi-Grammy winner, he also worked as a musical director for films, earning a BAFTA for Backbeat and directing the Brian Wilson documentary I Just Wasn't Made for These Times. Since 2012, he has served as President of Blue Note Records.
