The first exhibition in the Wayne County History Project features Redford, Westland, Livonia, Garden City, Inkster, and Wayne. Explore powerful stories of innovation in Garden City, resistance in Inkster, and transformation in Livonia and Redford. Discover how neighborhoods blossomed through agriculture, industry, migration, and the fight for civil rights. From the era of sundown towns and abolitionist hubs to launching groundbreaking Black-owned media and iconic businesses, each community's story holds a vital piece of the county's history.
The Wayne County History Project honors the people, places, and moments that built Wayne County’s 43 vibrant communities in six rotating exhibitions and an online history archive. Exhibitions will be on display at the Guardian Building (500 Griswold St, Detroit, MI 48226). Presented by the Detroit Historical Society and Wayne County Executive Office.
