Ashtray

One small souvenir ashtray from the ship locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The round ashtray is made of thin white glazed china. It has rounded sides, four evenly-spaced indentations along the outer edge (for resting a cigar or cigarette), and a small circular base. A gold-colored stripe is painted along the outer edge. Gold-colored stripes at the indentations form an inward-facing point and include a small fleur de lis decoration. At the center of the ashtray, a multi-color drawing of the locks and two steamships is shown along with black text that reads "Ore Freighter Passing: Sault Ste. Marie, Mich." The underside is stamped with an artist palette logo and gold-colored text that reads "Hand Painted," and "The Jonroth Studios, Germany." Additional printed black text reads "Printed and Imported for Soo 5 & 10¢ Store, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich."
