Balance, Analytical

One medical/pharmaceutical balance. The balance is made of brass and consists of a central column which supports a balance arm that has circular pans hanging from each end. A long calibration needle is attached at the center of the balance arm and points downward to a graduated scale that is attached near the base of the central column. Below the scale is a knurled brass knob which adjusts the height of the column. A square flange at the column base is bolted to a rectangular slab of white marble. The entire balance assembly is held in a rectangular box-type housing which consists of a wood framework with clear glass windows on the front and sides and wood panels on the top and back. The housing is attached to a 0.75-inch thick wood plank base. Adjustable knob screw legs are located at all four corners of the plank base in order to provide stability for the balance. The base and framework are made of pine wood which has been finished with a dark reddish brown stain. The front panel of the housing slides up in order to provide access to the balance. No manufacturer's labels are shown.
