One apothecary/pharmaceutical balance. The balance case is made of oak and pine wood with decorative moldings along the edges and a hinged glass top cover that has a wood frame. The case is painted silver. Two removable brass pans with balance arms fit onto vertical rods that protrude through the top surface of the case. At the center, a depressed area that holds a circular measuring pan which has a chrome or nickel silver finish. The pans are all located beneath the glass top cover. A small hole on the center front side of the case has an adjusting screw for calibrating the balance. A decorative brass strip is attached to the case above the adjusting screw opening.
