Chair, Boatswain's

One boatswain's (bosun's) chair used on a sailboat. The chair is made of a rectangular plank of unfinished pine wood and the top surface is covered with a piece of carpet. Three 5/8-inch diameter holes have been drilled at each end of the wood plank for a hoisting line. Two wood reinforcement blocks have been attached to each end of the underside of chair seat with wood screws. Two 3/8-inch diameter woven rope lines pass beneath the seat and are joined together with knots on top in order to create a single hoisting loop.
