Decoy
One hand carved wooden duck decoy. The decoy is made of balsa wood with minimal carving and shaping. It has been finished with red/black/white paint (mostly worn off) and depicts a duck of the Canvasback species. Its eyes are made of small circular clear plastic discs with black centers and a convex outer surface and have been attached on each side of the head. A thick brass strip is attached to the underside with three wood screws in order to add weight for ballast. One steel eye is nailed to the underside.
According to the donor, this decoy was used in the 1930s by his father, Roland "Red" Sprague, and brother while hunting on Saginaw Bay and elsewhere.
