Dress

One lady's dark blue silk dress. The one-piece dress has a small round neckline, no collar, a dropped shoulder line with long sleeves, seven black velvet-covered buttons down the center front of the bodice, and a full skirt that is gathered at the back waistline. The bodice and skirt are trimmed with 2.25-inch wide to 3.5-inch wide bands of decorative gold-colored ribbon with black edging. The bottom of each sleeve is trimmed with a 1-inch wide and 1.75-inch wide band of matching ribbon. Also, narrow band of pleated tan fabric has been sewn along the inside edge of each cuff in order to create a small ruffle. In addition, 1-inch wide bands of matching ribbon are sewn in a "V" pattern down the center front of the bodice and skirt. The same decorative ribbon is also used for a removable 1.5-inch wide belt that is fastened with hook/eye closures. The bodice is lined with tan cotton fabric and the skirt is lined with light brown cambric. A drawstring is located on the inside waistline which may have allowed the waist to be loosened for maternity wear. The dress is mostly hand-sewn and no manufacturer's labels are visible.
