Flag

One award flag from a sailboat race on Lake St. Clair. The rectangular flag is made of medium weight red cotton fabric. White appliqué text is sewn on both sides of the flag that reads "Second, D.B.C. [Detroit Boat Club], 8 Metre, 6-20-43." The hoist edge is reinforced with a double layer strip of white canvas. Brass grommets are located at the top and bottom ends of the reinforcing strip. The top, bottom, and outer edges of the flag are all sewn with a narrow rolled hem in order to minimize tears and fabric fraying.
