Flag

One award flag from a sailboat race on Lake Erie. The rectangular flag is made of medium weight yellow cotton fabric. White appliqué text is sewn on both sides of the flag that reads "Put-In-Bay Race, D.R.Y.A. [Detroit River Yachting Association], 6 M. [Metre], 8-10-41." The hoist edge is reinforced with a double layer strip of white canvas. Brass grommets are located at the top and bottom ends of the reinforcing strip. The top, bottom, and outer edges of the flag are all sewn with a narrow rolled hem in order to minimize tears and fabric fraying. A sewn label on the hoist edge has red text that reads "Detroit Flag Co., 414 Jefferson Ave. West, Detroit."
