1-Submachine Gun, Thompson; Calibre 45. U.S. Model 1928 A1 No. 8-400800 A0 87282. Above information and Serial Number, stamped on left side of bolt assembly on each gun. Stamped on the right hand side of each bolt assembly, is the manufacturer, "Auto-Ordinance. Corp. Bridgeport, Connecticut, U.S.A." Length is 34 1/2" and the weight is 10.8 pounds. A delayed blowback-operated weapon. Fires 650 rounds per minute. It can use either a 50 round drum type or a 30 round box type magazine. At the front of the barrel is a Cutt's compensator, a gadget which deflects the discharging gases in such a direction as to compensate for the inertia of the gun caused by the spinning of the departed bullets. This gun was invented in 1920 by Commander John Bish U.S.N. and Brig. Gen. John C. Thompson, U.S.A. Practically every armed force in the world has used this weapon. It has a comparatively short range, but what it lacks in range it makes up in fire-power. The gun delivers a devastating fire using the hard hitting shock producing calibre, 45 cartridge.
