Hat

One peaked hat worn by a marine engineering officer. The hat (size 7 1/8) has a white fabric top, a black headband with a gold-colored strap across the front, and a black vinyl visor. The strap ends are attached at brass buttons that are located on the left and right sides of the hat. The front of the hat has a decorative embroidered emblem that includes a diamond-shaped patch with text that reads "The S F [Shenango Furnace] Co." Embroidered text beneath the emblem reads "2nd Asst. Eng." A white vinyl and plastic label holder is located on the inside top of the hat with a manufacturer's label which has black printed text that reads "Slavin Uniform Co., 423 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland 14, Ohio." Adjacent handwritten blue ink text indicates that the hat belonged to "M. Maenpau - 2nd Asst. Eng."
