Helmet, Firefighter's
Fire helmet. Black leather "leatherhead" style firefighter's helmet with a tooled scrollwork design around its brim, culminating in a shield motif on the brim's rear. A heavy wire hook protrudes from its peak. Brown leather interior. This helmet belonged by Maurice F. Cousino, who was a member of Detroit's paid fire department at its inception. This is the helmet he wore while a member of Co. 6, one of the fire companies that went to Chicago fire in 1871.
