Helmet, Firefighter's

Fire helmet. Eggshell-colored metal fireman's helmet, with a curved backwards sloping brim and a gold-painted front emblem with red trim, upon which is painted, "Chief W. Mc. G," referring to its owner William McGraw, surrounding five crossed speaking trumpets, a symbol which detonates the rank of chief. The front emblem is supported by a crest shaped like the heraldic lion salient. An arch of heavy wire is looped through holes on either side of the lateral ridge on top of the helmet, likely so it can be hung up. Only tiny scraps of liner remain around rivets on the inside of the helmet.
