Holder, Match

One souvenir matchstick holder from the passenger steamship, SS Indiana, of the Goodrich Transit Company. The holder is made of white glazed china that has been painted cobalt blue on most of the exterior. It has a cylindrical, cup-shaped holder at the back for new matchsticks and an attached shamrock-shaped dish on the front for holding used matchsticks. The cup-shaped holder has an unglazed surface on the side which serves as a strike surface for lighting matches. The shamrock-shaped dish has a multi-color image of the passenger steamship, SS Indiana, printed at the center and small black text that reads "The Indiana, Muskegon, Mich." A narrow gold-colored stripe is located at the upper back edge of the dish and decorative gold-colored scroll designs are painted on each side of the ship image. A black ink stamp on the underside of the holder reads "Made in Germany."
