Holder, Match
One matchstick holder from the Commodore Perry Hotel In Toledo, Ohio, which commemorates Commodore Perry's victory in the Battle of Lake Erie. The holder is made of heavyweight white glazed china. It consists of a small dish/ashtray which has a narrow flat rim that has been decorated with narrow black dashed stripes and a multi-color floral pattern. On one area of the rim, an upright, rectangular matchstick holder has been formed as part of the china. The front surface of the holder has a multi-color image of Perry's ship, Niagara, and red/brown text that reads "Commodore Perry." Additional small red/brown text reads "We have met the enemy and they are ours, 1812." Gray stamped text on the underside of the dish reads "Design Copyrighted," and "O.P. Co. [Onondaga Pottery Company], Syracuse China."
