Jacket, Life

One child's life jacket from the passenger steamship, SS Eastern States. The jacket is made of heavy white canvas and has seven rectangular closed pockets which contain cork for flotation. It has open arm holes and three sets of canvas straps at the front for securing the jacket around the wearer. Black ink stamps on the inside and outside front flap read "CHILDREN - Atlantic-Pacific Mfg. Corpn., 124-128 Atlantic Ave., 121-125 Pacific St., Brooklyn, N.Y." A black ink stamp on the inside of the jacket shows "Stb. Eastern States" and a stamp on the outside reads "Approved - Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation: Nov. 1, 1939. T.F.D., New York, N.Y."
