One adult life jacket from the passenger steamship, SS Greater Detroit. The vest-style jacket is made of white cotton canvas with vertical rectangular sewn pockets around the body which contain thin brick-like blocks of cork for flotation. The jacket has white canvas tie straps at the neck and at the midpoint of the body. Black printed text stamped on the inside/outside left front reads "Atlantic Pacific Mfg. Corp., 124-130 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y." Black printed text on the outside right front reads "Greater Detroit," and shows a manufacturer's stamp (unreadable). Various "Passed" stamps on the inside of the jacket show years ranging from 1941 to 1948. An "Approved" stamp from a government bureau in New York is also shown.
