One adult life jacket from the passenger ferry, "BELLE ISLE." The vest-style jacket is made of orange cotton canvas with vertical rectangular sewn pockets around the body which contain brick-like blocks of balsa wood for flotation. The jacket has white canvas tie straps at the neck and at the midpoint of the body. Black printed text stamped on the inside/outside right front reads "Adult, Model No. 41," and "Atlantic-Pacific Mfg. Corp., 124-130 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn 2, N.Y." as well as "Balsa - Approval No. A-80." Black printed text on the outside left front reads "Belle Isle." An "Approved, United States Coast Guard" stamp, dated "Apr. 18, 1953," is shown on the inside left front. Various "Passed" stamps on the back of the jacket show the years, 1954 and 1955.
