Lamp, Oil

Fire Department Oil Lamp. A brass oil lamp from Rescue Company No. 1. The body has six faces, all but one behind a decorated glass panel. The front is tinted red and reads, "Rescue 1" above a leaf and berry motif, matching a similar motif in the metalwork that frames each panel. Moving clockwise, the next panel is tinted blue and depicts a crossed hook and ladder. The next panel is untinted and is decorated with a texture of a leaves, berries, and stylized pine cones laid out in a cross. The rear panel is missing. The next panel is identical to the previous untinted one. The final panel has a central green field surrounded by a thick untinted border. Within the green area, a silhouetted firefighter's helmet sits atop a diamond shape with a blank banner underneath. The lantern is topped by a pair of flared disc shaped decorations. A row of hourglass-shaped vents circles the piece underneath the lower larger disc. A large handle with curled ends, and a prong at its peak is attached just above the glass panels. The lantern sits atop a small stepped base. Just about the front panel a small plaque is attached into which the following is engraved:
