Maul

One large wooden maul that was used for making wood auto wheels at a factory located near Carthage, Mississippi. The maul is made from a single piece of hardwood (possibly ash, oak, or hickory). It has a cylindrical head that is approximately 11.5 inches long and 6 inches in diameter. The head surface is irregular and splintered. A rough 4-inch to 5-inch wide band of wood has worn away in the strike surface area around the center of the head. The handle has a round shape and is slightly tapered from 1.75 inches in diameter near the head down to 1.25 inches in diameter at the base. Its surface is slightly irregular, but has been worn smooth from handling during use. No owner's or manufacturer's name/marks are visible.
