Medal

One bronze medal to commemorate the centennial writing of the "Star Spangled Banner." The obverse has text near the upper edge that reads "Tis the Star-Spangled Banner" and shows Francis Scott Key on the deck of a ship as he views the American flag at Fort McHenry through the smoke clouds of battle. The initials, "HS," can be seen at the lower edge. The reverse has text that reads "National Star-Spangled Banner Centennial, Baltimore, M.D., U.S.A., Sept. 6-13, 1914," and shows of bust of Francis Scott Key surrounded by a draped American flag and a laurel branch. The manufacturer's name, "Whitehead-Hoag," is stamped on the edge of the medal.

The medal was made only for life members of the National Star Spangled Banner Association, and was presented to the Lawrence Macomb Chapter, U.S. Daug. of 1812 by Beatrice Larned Whitney Massey.
