Medal

One "Chevalier des Palmes Académiques" medal that was given to Henry D. Brown in 1963. The medal consists of a pale blue moire satin ribbon on top with a metal loop at the bottom that holds a decorative metal insignia of two crossed palm fronds. The insignia is made of brass with a silver and black enamel finish. A metal stickpin with two points is located on the back of the ribbon to provide a means of attachment to clothing. An accompanying white paper card has a gold-colored emblem at the top with handwritten blue ink text that reads "Conferred upon Henry D. Brown, Detroit Historical Museum, by the Government of France at Detroit, Michigan, 1963" and "[illegible signature], Consul General of France." Black printed text at the bottom of the card reads "The Consul General of France and Mrs. Jacques Dircks-Dilly request the pleasure of your company at a reception."
