1 - Medal and ribbon worn by United Spanish War Veteran (USWV), Joseph Hoffman. The medal has a rectangular brass top with a decorative border and a paper name tag with handwritten text: "Joseph Hoffman", a red and gold vertically-striped ribbon hangs beneath and behind an embossed cross-shaped medal with gold lettering: "Visitor 40th Annual Encampment Dept. of Michigan U.S.W.V. Lansing June 12-14, 1943." Embossed text on the medal: "United Spanish War Veterans 1898-1902, Philippine Islands, Cuba, Porto Rico, U.S.A."
