Medal, Commemorative

1 - Commemorative medal worn by Spanish-American War veterans. The medal has an irregular-shaped brass top that depicts a draped American flag. A red, white, and blue vertically-striped ribbon hangs beneath along with a circular brass medal. The medal shows an image Lady Columbia shaking hands with a soldier and a sailor. Raised text along the perimeter: "War With Spain and Philippine Campaign, 1898-1900." The name of the designer, "V.D. Brenner," is engraved in small text at the lower right corner of the image. The reverse side of the medal has raised text along the perimeter that shows "The People of the State of Michigan To" with no name engraved at the center. A decorative laurel wreath design is shown in the background.
