One World War II commemorative medal awarded to Capt. Morgan L. Howell. The medal has a red, white, blue, green, and yellow vertically-striped ribbon at the top with a hanging circular brass medal. The medal shows a Lady Columbia figure at the center who is holding a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Raised text shows "World War II." The reverse side of the medal shows an anchor at the center with the motto "Firmatas, Adversaria Superat [Strength to Overcome an Adversary]." Raised text along the perimeter shows "United States Merchant Marine, 1941-1945."
