Medal, Commemorative
One commemorative medal from "18th International Convention" of the United Society of Christian Endeavor which took place in Detroit on July 5-10, 1899. The medal has a small, rectangular, stamped brass frame at the top which has decorative edges. It holds a piece of white paper that is stamped with red text that reads "Detroit '99" and has a clear plastic covering. A spring-type brass pin is attached to the back of the frame and adjacent small stamped text reads "Hoag Co., Newark, N.J." A short silk ribbon with red/white vertical stripes hangs beneath the brass frame and a small pad of circular discs hangs from the bottom of the ribbon. The first disc, made of celluloid, is stamped with red text that shows the "CE" Society logo. The last disc, also made of celluloid, is stamped with small red text that reads "18th International Convention, Detroit, Mich., July 5 to 10, 1899," and "The Whitehead & Hoag Co., Newark, N.J." The pad contains six heavyweight white paper discs that are printed with engraved images of notable Detroit buildings and views.
