Model

One model of the ocean-going passenger/cargo ship, "M.S. Prinses Irene," of the Oranje Line. The model depicts a modern ship with a large central superstructure and cargo booms/hatches located on the fore and aft decks. It is made primarily of wood with fittings made of metal, plastic, paper, and filament thread. The central superstructure is painted white and has a natural wood deck. Decks in work areas of the ship are painted black or red and hatches are gray. The upper topsides of the hull are painted white and the lower topsides are painted gray. The underside of the hull, below the waterline, is painted red. The ship name, "Prinses Irene," is shown on the sides of the hull at the bow and stern. Also, the home port, "Rotterdam," is shown beneath the ship name at the stern.

The model is mounted on a rectangular wood base. The top surface is painted green and the sides are made of light-colored, fine-grained wood that has been finished with a glossy lacquer or varnish. A rectangular green plastic plate is mounted near the forward end of the base and reads "M.S. Prinses Irene, Oranje Line, Built in 1959, Overall length 450'6", Tonnage 8533.26 G.R.T., 115 Passengers in one class." A small brass plate is mounted on the top surface of the base near the model stern and reads "Modellen en Maquettes, N.V. v/h Fa. C. Dubbelman, Slikkerveer (Holland)." Also, a clear plexiglass protective cover is included which covers the entire model and fits into grooves near the outer edges of the wood base. The model also comes with a fitted shipping crate made of wood.
