Model
Tartan - 37
One model of a Tartan 37 sailboat. The model depicts a typical 37-foot long sloop rig recreational sailboat with a fin keel and an inboard auxiliary engine. It has an aluminum mast with single spreaders and stays, a mainsail, roller-furling jib, bow and stern pulpits with double lifelines, a raised cabin top with four portholes on each side, teak handrails and toe rails, and a large aft cockpit with teak seats. The model is made primarily of wood with fittings made of metal, plastic, paper, and thread. The deck and topsides are painted white with light blue/gray for the anti-skid areas of the deck. The water line stripe is painted dark blue and the underside of the hull is painted blue. A stylized "T" (the manufacturer's logo) is shown on the mainsail. The model is mounted on a rectangular wood base that is made of oak with mahogany trim strips along the edges. The wood base has been finished with a light brown stain and a semi-gloss lacquer. A small brass plate is mounted at one corner of the base and shows "Model By H. Nissley, Riverview, Mich." A second small brass plate is mounted at the opposite corner of the base and shows "Tartan - 37, 1985, Scale 3/8 In. - 1 Ft." The model includes a fitted clear acrylic protective cover.
