Belle Isle at Night
One framed oil painting on canvas, "Belle Isle at Night," by Frederick William James Howell. The nighttime view looks east northeasterly from the west end of Lake Tacoma on Belle Isle. Several trees, the shoreline, and a small sailboat are visible in the foreground. Lights are faintly visible along Loiter Way through shoreline trees in the left and center background. The Nancy Brown Peace Carillon tower can be seen at the far end of the lake in the center right background. Beyond the tower, a narrow band of dark clouds is visible above the tree line. The artist has signed his name, "F. W. Howell," near the lower right corner of the painting. It is mounted in a plain wood frame which has a narrow rounded inner edge that is painted black. The outer edge has a wide flat beveled surface that is painted gray.
