Plate, Commemorative

One plate that commemorates the "St. Lawrence Seaway." The round plate is made of glazed white china. It has a slightly-curved and upturned rim with black text at the top that reads "St. Lawrence Seaway." Oval-shaped, black and white drawings on each side of the text depict a steamship and sailing ships. A long map along the lower rim area shows the Seaway system from Ogdensburg, New York, to Montreal, Quebec. At the center of the plate, a black and white drawing of the ocean-going freighter, SS Manchester Pioneer, is shown in one of the locks of the Welland Canal. The underside of the plate is stamped with black printed text that gives historical details about the canal and the images that are depicted on the top surface. Two circular Wedgwood marks are shown beneath the text.
