Platter

One small platter from the dining room of the sidewheel passenger steamship, SS Sam Ward, of the Ward Line. The octagonal-shaped platter is made of heavyweight off-white glazed ironstone china. It has a slightly-curved, upturned rim with a flattened outer edge, and a flat bottom. A sepia-toned image is shown at the center of the platter that depicts a port side view of a sidewheel steamship. Dark brown text beneath the image reads "Wards Line Steamers." The underside is stamped with a crown/belt logo and brown text that reads "Mayers Real Ironstone, Office 81 Pearl Street, New York," and "Prize Medal 1851." Additional stamped brown text reads "Imported by John L. Jenness, Detroit."
