Radio, Crystal

1 Tecla Portable Crystal set. Made in 1921 by the The Tecla Co., Inc. of Detroit. Tecla Thirty Radiophone Receiver, black cloth-covered wooden case, front of case opens and drops down on hinge, front of interior has paper label with instructions for set up and use and morse code. Includes a pair of headphones. Wooden panel has controls, headphone connections, crystal and cat's whisker tuner. All in very good condition.

One of the first commercially built portable type receivers. using a crystal detector and a simple type of tuning unit, the set was not very sensitive. good reception was possible only in the vicinity of the higher-powered stations, and then only when a fairly long antenna was used which likewise restricted its use as a "portable" set.
