Sign
One wall-mounted, lighted sign from the B. Siegel Company women's clothing store that was located at 6375 W. Seven Mile Road (near Livernois, the Avenue of Fashion) in northwest Detroit. The sign consists of seven individual stylized letters that read "B Siegel." The back side of each letter is made of plywood that has been cut to the required shape. The letter sides are made of thin sheet aluminum that has been cut, bent, and formed as necessary to match the shape of the plywood. Small nails have been used to attach the aluminum sheeting to the plywood. The front sides of each letter are made of opaque white plastic sheet material that has been cut to the same shape as the plywood back panels and is secured to the edges of the aluminum sheets with metal edging strips and screws. Neon lighting is held inside each letter framework although exterior wiring has been removed. The aluminum sides of the letters have a dark brown finish and the exterior surfaces of the plywood back panels have a thin, silver-colored metallic weatherproof covering.
