Old Detroit

Sign, "Old Detroit," from Mariner's Church. The sign is printed in black, white, gray, and gold on board and mounted on gold-colored board. A drawing of stone building is at top, with text underneath. The text of the sign is as follows:

"OLD DETROIT

In 1796 when Detroit came under the rule of the United States, an old stone building known as the Indian Council House was here located. For many years it was used as a court house, for military headquarters, for elections and for town meetings. It was destroyed in the great fire of May 9th 1848."
