Speaker

One "Radio Magnavox" horn speaker. The assembly consists of a heavy rectangular base and a large removable horn speaker. The rectangular base is made of wood that has rounded top edges and is painted black. One pair of screw-type terminals is located at one end of the base on a small rectangular plate that is stamped, "Input," on the top surface. A small rectangular steel cover is located beside the terminals and has the name, "Magnavox," stamped on the top surface. The patented "voice coil" mechanism is located inside a cylindrical steel case that is painted black and is mounted on the opposite end of the wood base. Two screw-type terminals are located at the corners for connection to a battery or other power source. A metal tag on the side of the voice coil case reads "Radio Magnavox, Patented, Made in U.S.A., Type R3, Mod. B, No. 25116," and "The Magnavox Co., Oakland, California." A circular metal collar on the top of the voice coil provides a mounting base for the removable horn speaker. A paper label on the underside of the wood base is printed in black text that reads "This Instrument Is Manufactured Under One or More of the Following Patents: U.S. Serial Number 1,051,113 Jan. 21, 1913; U.S. Serial Number 1,105,924 Aug. 4, 1914; U.S. Serial Number 1,266,988 May 21, 1918." Additional printed text reads "Other patents pending. Design patents applied for. The Magnavox Company, Oakland. California."

The removable horn speaker is painted black. The narrow cone-shaped portion is made of thin sheet steel and the flared bell portion is made of brass. A black and gold-colored decal is mounted on the lower part of the bell. It depicts an image of the horn speaker with the head of a roaring lion and has text that reads "The Magnavox Co., Oakland, Calif., U.S.A."
