Stein

One beer stein made by the Albert Jacob Thewalt factory of Hohr, Germany. The stein is made of bone white glazed ceramic pottery with straight sides that taper outward slightly to form a base that is wider than the top. The tall stein has a thin, rounded top rim, a decorative pewter hinged lid, and a wide rounded handle at the side. The side opposite the handle shows an elaborate colorful relief image that depicts the mythical German hero, Siegfried, bidding farewell to his wife, Kriemhilde. Raised text beneath the image reads "Siegfried." Adjacent matching relief images show decorative floral designs with a small castle scene. Decorative multi-color bands of scrollwork designs are located below the top rim and above the base. Stamped text near the top of the handle reads "1L [liter]." The underside is stamped with the manufacturer's logo, the letter, "O," and the number, "215." This number is the catalog number for the stein design, "Siegfried."
