Stein
One beer stein made by the J. W. [Johann Wilhelm] Remy factory of Hohr, Germany. The tall stein is made of partially-glazed ceramic pottery with straight sides and a base that tapers slightly outward. The stein has a thin, rounded top rim, a decorative pewter hinged lid, and a decorative tall handle at the side. Raised blue/white designs adjacent to the handle show images of hops leaves and flowers. A matching design is used to form a band around the stein base. The side opposite the handle shows a multi-color image of a tavern scene along with incised black German text that reads "Festeffen [Feast]." Incised black German fraktur text beneath the scene reads "Wo Liebe den Trank ersonnen hat, Da lass Dir's munden, da halte Rast. [Where love has shown upon the drink, then taste it and rest]." Stamped text near the top of the handle reads "1L [liter]." The underside is stamped with the number, "756," and "German[y]." The number, "756," is the catalog number for the stein design, "Feast."
