Stein
One beer stein made by the Albert Jacob Thewalt factory of Hohr, Germany. The stein is made of cream-colored glazed ceramic pottery with sides that curve outward slightly to form a base that is wider than the top. The tall stein has a thin, rounded top rim, a decorative pewter hinged lid, and a tall curved handle at the side. The sides are covered with an elaborate cream/black relief image that depicts a tavern scene with dancers who are dressed in peasant-style clothing. Incised title text at the bottom of the image reads "Zum Tanz [To the Dance]." A red band above the base has a floral design with scrolls and incised text that reads "Ein frohes Herz, Heilt allen Schmerz [A Happy Heart, Heals All Pain]." Stamped text near the top of the handle reads "0.5L [liter]." The underside is stamped with the manufacturer's logo, the letter, "F," the number, "384," and text that reads "Made in Germany." The number, "384," is also marked on the side of the stein by the handle and is the catalog number for the stein design, "Zum Tanz [To the Dance]."
