One woman's U.S. Army Nurse Corps uniform from World War II. The uniform, worn by Norma R. Hallead, consists of several pieces which are described as follows (a.-h.):
a. U.S. Army jacket made of green wool fabric. It has button epaulets on the shoulders, a pointed collar with short lapels, long sleeves with plain cuffs, four brass buttons down the center front, flap pockets with brass buttons on the left and right breasts, slash pockets on the left and right sides at the front, and a green acetate lining. A label on the inside back of collar shows the name, "Norma R. Hallead." Military insignia includes: single silver-colored metal bars on each shoulder epaulet, U.S. and Nurse Corps pins on each lapel, a single woven green stripe on each cuff, two short embroidered bars on the left cuff, a multi-color embroidered star/chains/arrow patch on the left sleeve at the shoulder, and two ribbon bars over the left breast pocket.
b. A plain unlined skirt made of green wool fabric. It is slightly flared, has a button at the waistband with a zipper closure at the side, and a hemline ending just below the knee.
c. A plain unlined skirt made of tan/gray wool knit fabric. It is flared slightly more than the green wool skirt listed above. It has two hook/eye closures at the waistband with a zipper closure at the side, and a hemline ending just below the knee. A label on the inside waistband shows the name, "Norma R. Hallead."
d. One pair of trousers made of green wool fabric. The trousers have fairly straight legs, a pleated front, two buttons on the waistband with a zipper closure on the left side seam, and a pocket on the right side seam. A label on the inside waistband shows the name, "Norma R. Hallead." A worn label on the inside waistband shows "Size 14."
e. A uniform blouse made of tan cotton fabric. The blouse has shoulders with small gathered pleats at the front and back, a pointed collar, long sleeves with plain button cuffs, flap pockets with buttons on the left and right breasts, and five buttons down the center front. A label on the inside back of collar shows the name, "Norma R. Hallead."
f. U.S. Army dress made of green wool knit fabric. The unlined dress has a pointed collar with short lapels, long sleeves with French cuffs, left and right breast pockets with flap fronts, a slightly fitted bodice with pleats at the front and back, three (removable) buttons at the center front, a zipper closure on the left side, and a matching fabric belt with two loops at the back. The plain skirt is slightly flared and has a hemline ending below the knee. A label on the inside back of collar shows the name, "Norma R. Hallead."
g. U.S. Army service cap made of green wool fabric. The cap has a green wool front brim, a narrow green strap across the front, a large brass eagle pin emblem at the center front, and a top that slopes downward to form a rounded back. In addition, the cap has a brown acetate lining and a brown grosgrain ribbon on the interior headband. Labels on the inside back headband show the name, "Norma R. Hallead," and "22."
h. The uniform includes a folding side (garrison) cap that is made of green wool fabric. It has green/yellow piping along the top edges of the side panels and a single silver-colored metal bar pin at the front. The interior has a dark brown satin/rayon lining. A label on the inside headband reads "21 1/2."
