Wagon, Child's

One child's "Auto-Wheel-Coaster" wagon. The wagon is made of oak or ash wood and is assembled with steel nails as well as threaded bolts and nuts. It has wood spoke wheels with steel rims. The wheel hubs and axles are also made of steel. Steel struts on the underside provide support for the wheel assemblies. The front wheel assembly has a center pin and bearing plate which allows the assembly to be turned with the attached wooden handle. The right rear wheel has a short wood lever for a hand brake. The exterior sides of the wagon have black text that reads "Auto-Wheel-Coaster." Decorative black stencil designs are painted on the exterior side panels at the corners and on the end panels. Black printed text on the back end of the rear wheel assembly reads "No. 3, Geo. C. Wetherbee & Co., Detroit, Mich." The wood has a clear lacquer or shellac finish that has slightly darkened with age.
