-Detroit Fire Dept. - worked his way up from Fireman to Department Chief. The change from horse-drawn to motorized fire trucks took place while he was chief in 1922. After 40 years with the Dept. he was given a plaque by John Smith and Councilman John Lodge. His son, Harry Callahan went on to become battalion chief and was important in setting up the firemen's training school in Detroit where he was the head for 25 years. Timothy's father, Jeremiah had come to this country from Ireland in 1851.
