Digital scan of a sepia-toned photo taken of the underpinning put in place beneath the west wall of a brick building at 216 Randolph Street during the construction of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. Four workers stand along the wall. Beans put in place to buttress the walls of the building are visible on the left. A sign for Hugo W. Schmidt Trays, Baskets, and Novelties, is posted beside the doors on the immediate right. "Detroit and Canada Tunnel Contract - Section 5; Underpinning for West Wall of 216 Randolph Street; Aug 13, 1929. 10:15 A.M. 8A-24" was handwritten on the verso.
