Image, Digital

Digital scan of a sepia-toned photo overlooking the construction site for the Detroit terminal of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, as taken from a point above its northwest corner, near the intersection of Woodbridge Street and Bates Street, facing east. Woodbridge runs along the left side of the image. Most of the block with the exception of a partially demolished building at the southeast corner, and a mostly intact on at the northeast corner has been cleared, and a steam shovel is excavating the northern end. Trucks, workers, and construction debris are scattered around the site. The Rivertown-Warehouse district is visible in the distance. "Detroit and Canada Tunnel Contract - Section 5; Wrecking - North Half of Block - from West. Jan. 11, 1929, 8B-28," was handwritten on the verso.
