Digital scan of a 35mm color slide of a photograph taken during the unrest of 1967. The camera peers south along Oakland Avenue, from atop a vehicle near Leicester Court. On the immediate right, North End Hardware's storefront is boarded up, with "Soul Brother" painted across it. Further south on the west side of Oakland, a Cancellation Shoe Store and adjacent storefronts are burned down. A man with a green helmet and a rifle directs traffic around a truck bed, crane, and small dump truck in front of the fire-damaged strip. In the background on the west side of the street, signs for Paradise Loans, and the Jumbo Shrimp Stop are visible. Along the east side of Oakland are signs for China Town Chop Suey, Phelp's Cocktail Lounge, a Shell gas station, and a Marathon gas station.
