Image, Digital

Digital scan of a black and white photo of traffic backed outside the entrance to the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, as taken from an elevated position across Atwater Street, facing northeast. The unloading platform attached to the building for the inspection of bus passengers from Canada is just the right of the center of the frame. The lanes leading from the toll booths to the tunnel's ramp are to its left. On the right are cars coming from Windsor, approaching the inspection lanes. Woodbridge Street stretches across the background. The tower of the Wayne County Building is in the distance.
A note that was included with the photo read:
October 1, 1945
This photograph was taken between 9:30 and 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 29th, 1945 showing cars blocked on the American side by reason of insufficient inspection lanes in Windsor to clear the traffic, only four inspection lanes out of an available ten were operating. This is the same location as photograph #1 except it shows cars coming from Windsor to Detroit.
